Following the opening weekend of the men's and women's Canada West soccer season fifth-year University of Victoria Vikes men's soccer player
Craig Gorman and fourth year
Sam Prette were named First and Third Stars of the Week, respectively. The Vikes men drew 1-1 with their mainland rivals the UBC Thunderbirds on Sept. 5 in Vancouver.
OFFICIAL RELEASEGorman took just 41 seconds to even up the score after UBC's Gagan Dosanjh scored UBC's go-ahead goal in the 12th minute of the game. Gorman converted a pass from team mate Prette to beat UBC keeper Chad Bush. Gorman's strike came from the top of the box, while his shot was buried in the bottom corner of the net.
Gorman scored six goals in five pre-season games entering the Saturday contest extending his goal-scoring streak now to five games with his strike in the 13th minute. Gorman was also named Victoria's player of the game.
"[Craig] Gorman has been outstanding, in particular his ability taking free kicks and creating scoring chances with his crosses," said Vikes head coachÂ
Bruce Wilson following Saturday's tie. "He played very well for us today and, deservedly so, earned our man of the match."
Prette notched three shots, one on target, in the match up against UBC and was credited the assist to Gorman's goal.Â
Gorman, Prette and the Vikes men return to the pitch this weekend, Sept. 11-12, with a double-header against the UNBC Timberwolves in their home openers at Centennial Stadium. Both games are at 7:15 p.m. and will be broadcast live at
