CHARLOTTETOWN (CIS) – Third-year transfer and University of Victoria Vikes men's soccer goal keeper
Noah Pawlowski was named a CIS First Team All-Canadian tonight at the championship banquet hosted in Charlottetown, P.E.I. Pawlowski started 11 of 12 regular season games and logged a 0.800 save percentage as well as four shutouts.
Â
The Vikes men allowed only 11 goals this season, the second-least amount after UBC with seven allowed. Pawlowski is the only Vike to be named to the All-Canadian list despite three others –
Cam Hundal,
Cameron Stokes and
Alex Redpath – getting the nod at the Canada West level.
Â
The Vikes qualified for the conference Final Four after an exciting 2-1 home win in the quarter-finals against Fraser Valley. The Vikes were knocked out in the semifinals by Canada West Final Four hosts and eventual champions, the Saskatchewan Huskies. Despite the loss, Pawlowski logged six saves to hold the score line to only 2-0. Â
Â
Pawlowski is the only goalkeeper named to the CIS First Team All-Canadian list.
Â
Justin Maheu, a second-year striker from Cape Breton University, was named CIS player of the year in men's soccer, Wednesday evening.
Â
The sophomore from Ottawa became the first CBU standout to merit the Joe Johnson Memorial Trophy.
Â
Other national award winners announced during the All-Canadian Banquet at the Hotel Rodd Royalty in Charlottetown were UBC defender Chris Serban, who received the Lou Bilek Award as rookie of the year; Toronto midfielder/striker Mario Kovacevic, who claimed the Student-Athlete Community Service Award; as well as York's Carmine Isacco, who was voted coach of the year for the second time.
Â
