BOSTON, MA – #Katie Bennett# struck late in the second half to lead the UVic Vikes women's field hockey team past Harvard on Sunday afternoon, giving the tourists their second straight victory of their 2010 preseason tour.

Much of the game was a defensive stalemate with Harvard failing to register a shot on net.

The gridlock was finally broken late in the second frame when Bennett intercepted a pass, executed a crafty give-and-go before pounding the ball in the back of the net.

The Vikes now take on Dartmouth, a team Vikes head coach Lynne Beecroft says will pose a stiff challenge.

“We lost to them last year but we had several scoring opportunities,” Beecroft said. “They beat Harvard 4-0 a few days ago so we know they'll be a very strong team. I trust the Vikes will be up to the test.”

The match against Dartmouth is scheduled for 2:00pm on Monday, August 30.
