BOSTON, MA – The UVic Vikes women's field hockey team kicked off their 2010 preseason exhibition tour with a 4-0 drubbing of the Brown Bears on Saturday afternoon.
Playing against their first university opponents of the 2010 season, the Vikes overcame a ruthless Bears offence and got on the score sheet through #
Courtney Low#.
Veteran #
Perri Espeseth# was next to score for the Vikes and gave the visitors a 2-0 lead heading into the half.
“They were the better team for the first ten minutes of the game hemming us into our zone,” Vikes head coach #
Lynne Beecroft# said. “Our defence, however, was very solid and thwarted their scoring opportunities.”
The second frame was much of the same story with #Dani Hennig# splitting two defenders and netting the Vikes third from a well-crafted strike at the top of the circle. The fourth goal came through
Kayleen van der Ree, a rookie out of Courtenay, BC.
Next up, the Vikes face Harvard on Sunday, August 29th at 2:00 pm.
