UVic Sports Hall of Fame Inductees announced
UVic Sports Hall of Fame
VICTORIA - Women's basketball player Tracie Sibbald (née McAra) and women's field hockey standout Laurelee Kopeck make up the Class of 2010 UVic Sports Hall of Fame inductees.

The UVic Sports Hall of Fame induction ceremony will take place as part of the Vikes Celebration of Champions, hosted at the Victoria Conference Centre on Tuesday, April 6th.

Since 2002, 25 individuals and four teams have been inducted into the UVic Sports Hall of Fame. The Department of Athletics and Recreation established the Hall of Fame to honour a tradition of champions that includes 46 CIS Championships, 19 Canadian university championships and 156 Olympians.

CLASS OF 2010 INDUCTEE BIOS:

TRACIE SIBBALD, ATHLETE (BASKETBALL)
  • Member of the Vikettes for five years (1978-83)
  • Led the Vikettes to three CIAU Championship titles (1980, '81, '82)
  • In 1982-83, was awarded the Nan Copp award as the CIAU's Most Outstanding Player after averaging 16.5 points per game during the season
  • CIAU First Team All-Canadian in 1982-83
  • Three-time Canada West First Team All-star (1981, '82, '83)
  • Member of the Canadian national team for six years
  • Represented Canada at the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics and 1983 World Championship

LAURELEE KOPECK, ATHLETE (FIELD HOCKEY)
  • Member of the Vikes for five years (1987-89, 1990-91, 1993-95)
  • The defender guided the Vikes to CIAU Championships in 1987 and '94
  • Two-time CIAU All-Canadian recipient (1993, '94)
  • CIS Championship tournament all-star (1994)
  • Enjoyed an accomplished 13-year career with the Canadian Senior national team (1989-01)
  • Totaled 163 caps as a National team member; the most of any national team player
  • Represented Canada at the 1992 Barcelona Olympic Games, and also played in two World Cups (1990, '94) two Pan American Games (1991, '99, '01) and the 1993 World University Games
  • Played two years professionally in Germany for the Klipper club team in Hamburg
